This pendant features an ancient Mesoamerican 18-20k yellow gold axolotl. Pre-Columbian Mesoamericans created these hollow gold pendants, which were often placed on the neck of a deceased loved one as a symbol of protection. The axolotl is named after Xolotl, the Aztec god of lightning and fire. This pendant attaches to a necklace via the rings on the ends of the front legs. A great piece of history for any collector!
