A very rare piece of military history. This 1894 1st Class Marksmanship EIC badge features blue and white enamel over solid 14k gold. These badges are discussed in depth in the book "Marksmanship in the US Army" by William K Emerson. Referred to as excellence in competition badges (EIC). Initial research suggests this may be the badge awarded to Sgt Horace Bivins during a competition in Omaha. page 125.
More interesting is the fact in 1894 few shooting competitions took place due the US Army changing rifles to the Krags model.
