This whimsical sparrow brooch, from the late 1880's Victorian period, is crafted in 10k yellow gold, and studded with seed pearls. Victorian jewelry was crafted with hidden meanings. Crescent moon brooches were given as gifts from grooms to their new brides. The swallow representing faithfulness and safe journeys, and the moon representing a change in seasons, and the feminine "power" of the moon. A stunning piece of wearable history.
Notice the charm holder weaving discreetly behind the base of the frame, allowing a charm such as a pearl or gem t0 be added as an extra adornment!
